Slated to hold from Wednesday, May 14 to Friday, May 16, 2025, the conference will take place at the Anyim Pius Anyim Auditorium, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria. The theme of the conference, 

 “Food Security & Climate Change: Nigeria’s Contemporary Socio-Political and Technological Environment,” 

reflects the urgent need for collaborative academic and policy dialogues around sustainable development in agriculture.

With high-level speakers, engaging discussions, and a focus on pressing global challenges on food security, innovation and entrepreneurship, the CAERSE 2025 International Conference promises to be a landmark event in agribusiness ecosystem in Nigeria and beyond.

The College of Agricultural Economics, Rural Sociology and Extension (CAERSE) of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State Nigeria, is set to host its Maiden International Conference, a groundbreaking academic event focused on Food Security and Climate Change in the context of Nigeria’s socio-political and technological landscape.


Slated to hold from Wednesday, May 14 to Friday, May 16, 2025, the conference will take place at the Anyim Pius Anyim Auditorium, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria. The theme of the conference, “Food Security & Climate Change: Nigeria’s Contemporary Socio-Political and Technological Environment,” reflects the urgent need for collaborative academic and policy dialogues around sustainable development in agriculture.

The conference will be declared open at 9:00 AM on Thursday, May 15 by the Chief Host, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. M.O. Iwe, CFS, FNIFST, FIAFoST, 2025 under the chairmanship of Pst. Dr. Okey Iheanmma, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industries, Abia State, with a rich lineup of keynote addresses and panel sessions. The Keynote Speaker, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, FCIB, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Abia State, is expected to present insights on regional agricultural resilience and policy-driven responses to climate threats, while Dr. B.C. Okoye of the National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike, will join as a Guest Speaker.

The conference will also feature awards of recognition to worthy alumni of the college and other stakeholders, further cementing CAERSE’s commitment to academic excellence, institutional growth, and linkages with the organized private sector.
